Mt. Rainier National Park (2/5): Comet Falls Hike
Yep, we were still socked in with clouds, so I still wasn’t sure what hike I was going to do today. But I couldn’t think on an empty stomach, right? The food at the lodge looked really f’n good. I couldn’t decide between a standard bacon/eggs/hashbrowns/toast meal, or a marionberry pancakes meal. Whatever was a meathead to do? Why, order BOTH, of course!
On my way out, I was talking to the hostess who had asked me what hike I was going to do today. I told her I was thinking about Carter Falls, as it looked like one my camera would enjoy. She looked me up and down (Giggety), and I guess I was looking extra fit and vascular (the carbs from the potatoes and pancakes were hitting juuuuust right) and she said “Aw hell nah, that’s too easy for you. You’re doing Comet Falls.”
Comet Falls was not on my radar at all, so I walked over to the gift shop to read up on it really quick. After a quick read, I thought to myself “Yep, she’s right – Comet Falls it’s gonna be!” (This entire day reminded me of being in the Canadian Rockies a couple summers prior when the wildfires were bad. Couldn’t see enough to make epic landscape photos, but chasing waterfalls is always a great consolation prize, right?)
You don’t have to walk very far on this trail to get some great photo ops! Within mere minutes, you’re at a bridge overlooking Christine Falls.
I was in and out of the clouds for much of the hike in, but I still got to create some wicked images!
Towards the end, there was one more river crossing with a fun bridge to go over. This was a gorgeous spot to stop and take more photos!
And finally, off to Comet Falls!
Oh, and for you fitness buffs, here were my stats:
