I feel horrible for all you couples trying to plan your dream wedding with all this Covid-19 shit going on. It sucks, no way around it.
One big question a lot of people are asking is, should we still get married in 2020? Or should we push back to 2021?
Honestly, I’m advising most my couples to push back to 2021 for around a million reasons. But a lot of couples are considering doing small elopement style wedding this summer.
Here are five important things to ask yourself when deciding if you want to get married in 2020 or 2021:
How important is that piece of paper?
A lot of couples hinge important life events based on whether or not they are actually married. For example, they don’t want to start trying for a baby until they are officially married. These couples may want to get their certificate on their original 2020 day so they can move forward with their life plans. And hey, you can still throw a big party next year if you want! (Well… A new kid could complicate that, but that’s another story for another time, right?)
Do you like your family?
I say that as a little bit of a smartass question, obviously. 😉 But think about it. If it is super important for you to have your family present, then a small elopement won’t work. You’ll definitely want to hold for for 2021 so those close to you can share your special day.
Will you be out deposit money from your vendors?
Most wedding vendor deposits are non-refundable, but given the circumstances these days, a lot of vendors (us included!) are allowing couples to move their date at no charge. If you’re going to be out thousands upon thousands of dollars because you want to do a small elopement and won’t be needing their services anymore…. Well then you’ve just wasted a lot of hard-earned money. 🙁 Hold off for 2021, and have your huge celebration still!
How much planning have you done so far?
If you haven’t planned very much yet, or are still in the beginning stages, then I can’t lie to ya – elopements are SO much easier on virtually every possible level! You can easily have an awesome elopement locally, and have a super chill experience with MUCH less stress. Now, I cannot re-iterate this enough – the chill factor is HUGE!! And you don’t have to wait a full year.
What about hair and makeup?
If you’re going to do a small elopement this summer, you may be left on your own for hair and makeup! But if you’re confident to go the DIY route, there are some amazing tutorials on YouTube, and there are some makeup artists that will walk you through on a video chat. (I highly recommend Cinthia Torres Bridal Makeup Artistry)
Try not to stress too much. Enjoy each other, enjoy the fact that you ARE getting married, and remember, STAY POSITIVE. You’re going to have a kickass day no matter how you choose to celebrate.
Some food for thought for ya! Any questions or anything, comment below.
And yes, we do have 2020 dates open for elopements, and 2021 is filling up from rescheduled dates, but we do have dates open. Hit me up HERE if you want to discuss working together!
