This was an engagement session that I had been looking forward to for a long time! Kalika and Rydel were coming In from Kamloops to shoot with me, so I definitely wanted to make it worth their while. I knew they wanted to shoot at a waterfall (with their dog Timber!) and we talked about shooting at the Sunflower Festival too.
Before we met, I wanted to know a little bit about how they met, and what their love story looked like. It looked a little something like this: “. . .growing up in a small town with limited options and refusal to date anyone from town, 15 year old Kalika HAD TO HAVE the new and mysterious Rydel. Coming from an even smaller town and living deep in the country, I think Rydel was a little fascinated with me too; being voted the most unique of my class, it makes sense. He was just so different than anyone I had come to know and I loved that about him, he treated me differently and acted differently than all the other “country” guys in town ever had, he always had a great work ethic too, had a job from the day I met him. Oh he wore liberty spikes for his grad photos (which I helped him create) so what’s not to love! We were just two punks in love in a country town, with bigger dreams than the town we were living in.”
We met up at Cascade Falls in Mission, and not really digging the standard view from the top (if you’ve worked with me, you know I HATE the standard stuff!) so we figured we’d get a little closer. We may or may not have gotten a little wet in the process, but hey, that’s all part of the adventure!
And then it was off to see sunflowers! We arrived JUST in time for sunset, and by that point, it was so late that we pretty much had the entire field to ourselves.
Congrats Kalika and Rydel!
