I was super stoked to head up to Nevada Fall, because it was going to be our first REAL hike of our Yosemite National Park adventure! And even better, I knew our chances of encountering snow higher up were pretty certain, because of the bomb cyclone that wrapped up just one day prior.
This was seriously a great hike. The incline starts off pretty aggressively as you walk beside the fast flowing Merced River, but it’s paved with awesome views, so you can’t complain about a whole lot! (Well, unless your cardio isn’t all that, then you can complain a little bit.
After crossing the Vernal Falls Bridge, we reached a junction – straight ahead to Vernal Falls, or right for Nevada Falls. The trail to Vernal Falls was closed because of a huge rock slide, so turning right to Nevada Falls was our only option (even though it was the one we wanted anyways!)
The trail is mostly switchbacks to the top, with lots of views along the way. We ran into a LOT more snow than I was anticipating, so I was a little worried about walking down, because my dumb ass didn’t bring my brand new hiking poles. Oops!
We stopped at Clark Point to take some photos, have some water, and eat some food. And then, the final push to Nevada Fall!
It was a relatively short walk to our viewpoint from there. Nevada Fall, Liberty Cap, and the recently fallen snow all worked together to give us a beautiful photo op! Some clouds rolled in to give us some extra drama for the last light on Liberty Cap.
And then it was a long walk back down in the dark! But thankfully we all had headlamps, and personally, I didn’t end up on my ass on any sheets of ice!
Finally, yes, we absolutely treated ourselves to pizza afterwards. We deserved it, ya know.
