So a lot of you know that we’ve temporarily relocated to the sprawling urban metropolis known as BEAVERDELL until this stupid Covid-19 shit dies down. Partly because human interaction is minimal at any time, but perhaps more importantly…. There’s a fully equipped private home gym!
See, my mother in law Terry owns the house, and she graciously invited us to ride out the storm here. My wife Mandy is in prep for her pro debut (Vancouver Pro 2020), and I’m in prep for the Vancouver Island Showdown. And selfishly, if we can keep training AND stay safe…. Well, we’d be really f’n stupid not to. (Here’s a quick tour I did of the gym a couple years back – Click HERE for the YouTube video)
Also… Yes. Our gym IS called the Sweaty Beaver!
Other than the gym, there’s really NOTHING to do in Beaverdell. Our daily excursion is a simple walk to the Beaverdell General Store, for whatever we may have run out of. I was walking there on my own a few nights ago, so I was really looking around and observing my surroundings. I thought to myself “wow, there’s some real messed up redneck shit here, and a LOT of it.” So I thought I’d do a photo tour of a typical walk to the general store.
So with that being said, enjoy the wonder that is BEAVERDELL!
As soon as we leave the house, we turn south onto Highway 33 (it connects Kelowna to Rock Creek), and pass by a little food stand called It’s Mom’s. Much like most of Beaverdell right now, closed for the season!
Then the post office and fire hall.
A colorful address marker along the way.
And then we pass the Beaverdell Self Storage units. Looks like a few people are getting their shit thrown out1
Then we pass the Beaverdell RV Park.
And a cute little cabin next! Not sure if anyone lives here…
Another random set of mobile homes.
The Beaverdell Church
And right beside that, the Beaverdell Pizza & Ice Cream joint! Also still closed for the season. 🙁
And across the street, the school. Covid-19 making sure no one is on the playground!
This used to be a cafe.
Beaverdell living at its finest!
This isn’t actually a bakery at all. I guess the homeowners just wanted a cool sign?
This is the remains of the old Beaverdell Hotel, which burned to the ground a decade or so ago. The barroom brawls there were supposedly quite legendary…!
Moving along, the on-again off-again Route 33 Restaurant. Right now, it’s definitely off.
Then the community center.
The gas station! This just opened a couple years back. Though, much like the rest of Beaverdell, it’s not yet open for the season.
And we finally arrive at the Beaverdell General Store. Ghetto-ass beer (Old Milwaukee and PBR) for everyone!!
