Man, were we ever sad to say such a quick goodbye to Vegas. But needless to say, the fire had been lit
We couldn’t complain too much though, because after all, we were on our way to Los Angeles! During the weeks prior, we had tried and failed to get tickets to TV tapings. We REALLY wanted to see Boy Meets World, because it was one of our favorites at the time. The worst part was, I later found out that it was the episode with Vader, Mick Foley, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Damnit!! We also tried to get tickets for That 70s Show. Guess it just wasn’t meant to be!
We did have one stop though, to break up the long drive through the Southern California desert. Raging Waters in San Dimas. I can’t think of a better way to escape the scorching desert temperatures than waterslides! I couldn’t take my camera in (booooooo) but we did get to go on all of the rides that we wanted to. But our afternoon in San Dimas came to an early end when some dude knocked his head on something, and seemingly emptied a few pints of blood into one of the pools. That was our cue to leave.
Finally, we’d get to discover true Los Angeles traffic! God damn, it’s ACTUALLY as bad as everyone says it is. And this is twenty f’n years ago!
We were actually in the slums of Reseda, at some HoJo. The only positive thing was that there was a Jack In The Box around the corner. And hey, when in America….!
For the rest of the day, we kind of randomly drove around LA, just exploring. We found ourselves in Hollywood during the evening, exploring all that weirdness. One place we did specifically want to check out was a little coffee joint called Highland Grounds, as it came very highly recommended from Rider Strong. See, there’s that Boy Meets World tie in again! Drinks were awesome, acoustic musician was awesome too. So, thank you Rider / Shawn!
Recalling all this twenty years, one main question came to mind… Where the HELL was my camera?!
