THIS is the drive we were dreading almost as much as the Washington drive. We weren’t expecting I-5 California to be much better!
First though, we had to make a quick stop in Beverly Hills to pick up some gifts for some friends back home. So THIS is how the other half lives…!
And thus marked the beginning of the long trip north! Not a whole lot to say about the drive, really. We passed by Six Flags just north of LA, which looked SICK. Then seemingly billions upon billions of cows as we drove through the neverending farmland. Things got a little more interesting once we reached the mountains of northern California, and not even just because there was something to see. There were a couple wildfires that were pretty close to the freeway, so we definitely saw a few of them.
After several hours on the road, we finally reached Dunsmuir, which would be our home base for a couple nights. We were at the Railroad Park Resort. Cool AF place, it’s railroad cabooses converted into lodging.
We were pretty exhausted from a full day on the road, plus we were going to attempt our first ever hike up a volcano the next day – the glorious Lassen Peak!
