(Part 1/9) INTRO
This Yellowstone and Grand Teton adventure was a trip almost 20 years in the making!
July 6, 2000. Two of my best friends (Mark and Chris) and I were on an epic three week roadtrip, and Yellowstone National Park was our first stop. We stayed in West Yellowstone Montana, and immediately after checking in, we drove straight to Old Faithful. Honestly, we didn’t know a whole hell of a lot about the park and its features, but we knew we had to witness an Old Faithful eruption!
The next day, we drove the length of the park, past a bison jam, past the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, past Yellowstone Lake, and eventually eastward into South Dakota.
Clearly, one night in Yellowstone is not nearly enough to see ANYTHING. And ever since July of 2000, I have always wanted to go back.
One day, I was researching photography adventure in National Parks, and I stumbled across a company called Backcountry Journeys. I noticed that they did autumn tours combining Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. Take my money, Backcountry Journeys, I am IN!
The following blog series chronicles my seven nights in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem, from Sept 22 – Sept 29, 2019.
