Yosemite National Park – The Bomb Cyclone

If there was one positive thing to come out of the bomb cyclone that hit Yosemite National Park in October 2021, it was that we felt like we had the entire park to ourselves. How often does THAT happen?  And I suppose there was one more good thing – we were going to get some VERY rare and unique photography opportunities!

The drive in from Fresno was gross. Torrential downpour the whole way, except for the high mountain pass on the way in, where it was a full-on snowstorm. I wondered how this snow was going to impact our photos, and needless to say, I was pretty excited!

We checked into the Yosemite Valley Lodge which would be our home base for the next five nights, and then it was off to take photos of a VERY flooded Yosemite Valley.

This photo stop was at a flooded meadow just west of the El Capitan Picnic Area. Moody AF, right? You can barely even see Cathedral Rocks!

We actually ended up returning to this same meadow a few days later under complete sunshine, and needless to say, it looked a lot different!
